What is USA Dance - Seattle?

USA Dance - Seattle is the local chapter of USA Dance, a national nonprofit organization devoted to the promotion and improvement of amateur ballroom dancing. For more information about the projects and goals of national USA Dance, please see the National USA Dance website.

Composed of dancers, for dancers, USA Dance - Seattle strives to make sure dance opportunities are as diverse, high quality and affordable as possible today and tomorrow. By becoming a member, you are supporting an activity that is important to you and bringing yourself into the fold of a fun, friendly and supportive group of fellow dancers.

The Olympic Quest

USA Dance was originally formed to seek acceptance of competitive ballroom dancing (known as "dancesport") as an Olympic sport. We have been working hard to achieve this goal with other world amateur dance organizations and together our efforts have been rewarded with the coveted "Olympic Recognized Sport" status for dancesport by the International Olympic Committee. What this means is that the committee deems dancesport a worthy addition to the games, but it has not yet been scheduled in any specific games. If and when dancesport becomes a scheduled Olympic event, USA DanceSport will be the one organization authorized to select U.S. representatives to compete there (just as we currently select representatives to the World Championships).
